Position:  Library Manager
Location:  Cedaredge Library
Hours:  36 hours/week
Pay Range:  $15.00 – $25.00/hour, with benefits

Summary

Library Manager provides leadership in the Cedaredge community with focus on encouraging visits, circulation, program attendance, and use of digital resources.  The position manages staff and is accountable for achieving key results.  The position works collaboratively with the management team on programming, services, and change initiatives.  Management of the facility, grounds, and fiscal responsibility are also key elements of this position.

Responsibilities

Library Administration:  Responsible for the overall administration of the Cedaredge Library, including planning and oversight of the Library’s operations, staff, facility, and grounds.  Coordinates with the Assistant District Director in developing Library budgets, monitoring expenditures, tracking operational data and statistics, and projecting future needs in resources.  Works with Administration to ensure that the building and grounds of the Library are properly maintained.

 

Public Services:  Has overall responsibility for customer service for the Library.  Ensures customer service practices are followed.  Develops, delivers, and continually evaluates and improves services for a diverse population.  Applies communication techniques to reduce tension in escalated situations.  Responds to incidents that includes enforcing policy, calling first responders if needed, recommending suspensions, or other corrective actions.  Coordinates services with the Assistant District Director and the Library District’s system-wide resources.  Provides reference and other public services, including programming and outreach.

 

Library Operations:  Manages daily operations of the Library within the Library District’s defined procedures and policies.  Leads team efforts to maintain a safe and secure environment for customers and staff by maintaining awareness of surroundings and working in accordance with safety policies and procedures.  Coordinates Library operations with Administration and other Library Managers and collaborates with other Library Managers and librarians to create efficiencies in operations.  Participates in District-wide project teams.  Reads daily organizational communications.  Stays current on all Library services, programs, and events throughout the Library District.

 

Staff Supervision:  Manages staff, participates in hiring, creates work schedules, communicates clear performance expectations, and conducts performance reviews.  Participates in developing and monitoring work improvement plans as needed.  Handles employee relations issues with assistance from the Assistant District Director and/or the District Director.  Coordinates with the Assistant District Director to develop and guide staff toward the highest standards of customer service and professional development.  Oversees staffing and adherence to the Library District’s mission, administrative policies and procedures.  Serves as a resource to other Library staff.

 

Community Outreach:  Acts as liaison to maintain awareness of community events, interests, and needs that avail themselves to current or potential Library services and programs.  Attends community meetings to stimulate interest in the Library.  Initiates, develops, and maintains effective working partnerships with Friends, schools, volunteers, and business and civic groups.  Coordinates with Communications and Outreach Administrator to set goals and priorities for community outreach and works with Communications and Outreach Administrator for advertising and promotional planning for Library events.  Makes presentations to community groups.

 

Collection Development:  Works with Collections and Systems Administrator to maintain a vital collection by providing input in the selection of collection materials, especially with items that reflect the needs of the Library’s community.  Assists the Collections and Systems Administrator in making decisions about the selection, de-selection, and management of collection materials.

 

Librarianship:  Attends staff development days and other trainings to acquire new skills and to stay current on all information that is pertinent to the Library District.  Stays current on trends that impact public libraries, including technology trends.

 

Promotes Core Library Values:  Supports intellectual freedom.  Familiar with Colorado Library Law and endorses it.  Assumes responsibility for how the Library is perceived by the staff and the public.  Provides leadership to the Library through collaborative problem solving.  Knows and follows the Library District’s policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required Education:  Bachelor’s Degree.

Preferred Education:  Master of Library and Information Science.

 

Required Experience:  Three (3) years or more of professional library experience and two (2) years of supervisory experience that demonstrates ability to create a positive work environment and to build a cohesive team.  Excellent verbal and written communication skills.  Must have knowledge of library-specific software as well as strong administrative skills.  Proficiency in technology, electronic devices, computers, the internet, Microsoft Office Suite, and other office equipment.  Knowledge of reference and reader’s advisory services, and literature for children, teens, and adults.  Experience working with all age groups.  Evidence of successful experience with community partnerships.

 

Additional Required Experience for Cedaredge Library:  Experience in youth and adult programming, including programs in the Library, outreach programming in the Cedaredge community, Summer Reading Program, and any other special events that involve youth and adults.

 

Physical Requirements

Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends.  Must be able to travel in and out of the Library District.  Must be able to stand and/or walk for 4 hours or more per day; bend and stretch without limitation; lift up to 35-50 pounds at a time; push a loaded book cart weighing up to 150 pounds.  Tolerate dust and mold associated with books.  Walk, stand, sit, type, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, talk, listen, see, hear, grasp, pull, bend, and climb.  Must submit to and successfully pass a criminal background investigation.  Must complete a technology skills assessment.
