Hourly, 30-36 hours, non-exempt position, $15.00 – $25.00/hour, plus benefits

Reports to: Assistant District Director

Supervises: Cedaredge Library Staff

 

Qualifications:

Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree

Preferred Education: Master of Library and Information Science

Five years or more library experience, including knowledge of reference and reader’s advisory services, and literature for children, teens and adults. Experience working with all age groups.

Strong supervisory skills with a demonstrated ability to create a positive work environment for staff with varying degrees of experience and responsibilities, and evidence of ability to build a cohesive team.

Evidence of successful experience with community partnerships.

Proficiency in technology, computers, Microsoft Office, the internet, and other office equipment.

Must be able to stand and/or walk for 4 hours or more per day; bend and stretch without limitation; lift up to 35-50 pounds at a time; push a loaded book cart.

 

Summary:

Library Manager is the person in charge of daily operations in the library and reports to the Assistant District Director. Directs all library operations and assists patrons by providing reference and reader’s advisory services and community referrals.

 

Responsibilities:

Public services: develops, delivers and continually evaluates and improves services for a diverse population. Coordinates services with the Assistant District Director and Delta County Libraries system-wide resources. Provides reference and other public services, including programming and outreach. Participates in District-wide project teams.

 

Staff supervision: coordinates with the Assistant District Director to develop and guide staff toward the highest standards of customer service. Supervises staff and evaluates performance. Oversees the selection, training, performance appraisal and recognition, discipline and professional development of library staff.

 

Community outreach: acts as liaison between the community and the Library to identify emerging needs for new Library services.  Initiates, develops and maintains effective working partnerships with Friends, schools, volunteers, business and civic groups.  Coordinates with Communications and Outreach Administrator to set goals and priorities for community outreach and works with Communications and Outreach Administrator for advertising and promotional planning for Library events.

 

Library operations: coordinates library operations with Assistant District Director, Communications and Outreach Administrator, Literacy Administrator, Collections and Systems Administrator, Technology Manager, administrative staff and fellow Library Managers.

 

Library administration: coordinates with the Assistant District Director in developing library budgets and monitoring expenditures. Oversees staffing and adherence to Library’s mission, administrative policies and procedures. Serves as a resource to other Library staff.

 

Promotes core Library values: supports intellectual freedom. Assumes responsibility for how the Library is perceived by the staff and the public. Provides leadership to the Library through collaborative problem solving.

Duties: 

  1. Is in charge of daily operations of the individual Library.
  2. Responds to customer questions and issues about circulation matters.
  3. Is the go to person in regards to practices and procedures of the Library during daily operations.
  4. Contacts the Assistant District Director or the District Director when there is a conflict situation.
  5. Ensures that daily cash count is processed and that petty cash, deposits and cash register are balanced.
  6. Sets up desk schedules, programming schedules and outreach.
  7. Contacts substitutes when needed.
  8. Ensures opening and closing procedures are being followed every day.
  9. Ensures that technology maintenance procedures are being followed and contacts Assistant District Director, Technology Manager, or IT Service provider when needed.
  10. Participates in District-wide programs and promotions.
  11. Thrives in an environment with constant public contact with people from all backgrounds and age groups.
  12. Other duties as assigned.
